In the 2nd half of the 3rd century, Ancyra was invaded in immediate succession via the Goths coming with the west (who rode significantly into the guts of Cappadocia, using slaves and pillaging) and later with the Arabs. For approximately ten years, the city was one of many western outposts of 1 of Palmyrean empress Zenobia from the Syrian Desert,
